Everett Nickolie Nelson, 86, of Perham, Minnesota, died on Thursday, December 22, 2005, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 27, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham, with Reverend Paul Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Grove Lake Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
Everett was born on August 24, 1919, to Nickolie and Helen Emelia (Oscarson) Nelson in Belmond. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He graduated from the Belmond High School and attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in St. Paul for one year. He graduated from Waldorf College, St. Olaf College, and Luther Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1945. Everett married Clara Lauretta Haugrud on August 30, 1942, at the Grove Lake Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids. He served congregations in Ephraim, Wisconsin, Seneca, Illinois, Wessington Springs, South Dakota, Kenyon, Minnesota and Roland, Iowa. After retirement in 1984, he and Clara moved to the Perham-Dent areas where he served as interim pastor at many churches. He entered the Perham Nursing Home in August 2002.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Pearl and Ruth. He is survived by his wife; sons, Jonathan (Jill) of Marquette, Michigan and Paul (Kathy) of Mason City; daughters, Sharon (Daryl) Haarstick of Vergas, Minnesota and Mary (Dave) Thoresen of Lake Wales, Florida; grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Zumbolo, Matthew (Kenza) Nelson, Kristin Nelson, Kimberly (Christopher) Simmons, Jeff, Mark and Thomas Haarstick and Priya, Shristi and Jonathan Thoresen; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Norris Nelson of Fergus Falls, Clifford (Elnor) Nelson of St. Cloud, Minnesota and Reuben (Ellie) Nelson of Belmond; sisters, Mildred Meyer of Toledo, Ohio and Esther (Roy) Larson of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
