Bennie W. "Ben" Bartleson, 68, of 1616 W. Seventh Ave. N., Clear Lake, died Friday (Dec. 26, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Kermit Roisen and the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors conducted by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Post No. 4838. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North Fourth St., Clear Lake, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Bennie W. Bartleson was born March 2, 1929, in Forest City, the son of Benard Bartleson. He married Lorraine Carolus on May 2, 1953, in Belmond. Ben grew up in Forest City and attended Forest City Schools. He entered into the Navy in 1945 and served on the U.S.S. Hector. He worked for Home Insulation in Mason City for 35 years and then worked eight years at Zion Lutheran Church until retiring in 1994. Ben was an avid golfer and he enjoyed fishing. He loved spending time with his grandson, Sam. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Clear Lake V.F.W., and All Vets Golf Course.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Bartleson, of Clear Lake; one daughter, Dawn Treloar and her husband, Tim, Clear Lake; one grandson, Samuel Eli Treloar, Clear Lake; five sisters, Charlotte Klatt, Mason City, Vonnie Lynch and her husband, Bob, Marshalltown, Mildred Wilkins and her husband, Bob, Marshalltown, Marian Bartleson, Clear Lake, and Anna Balmer, Marshalltown; three brothers, Russell Balmer, Green Mountain, Carl Balmer, Marshalltown, and Harold Balmer, Green Mountain; five brothers-in-law, Vernon Carolus, Radcliffe, Donald Carolus and Merwin Carolus, both of Mason City, Merlin Carolus, Harlington, Texas, and Everett Schrieber, Bloomington, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents; one brother, Carl Bartleson; three sisters, Alberta Iverson, Marie Schrieber and Val Bartleson; and a special niece, Marnie Vivalda.
