July 16, 1924-August 7, 2004

ALDEN - Kent LeRoy Hackbarth, 80, of Alden died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Iowa Falls with Rev. Floyd Davis officiating. Burial will be at the Friends Cemetery in Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to the family c/o his wife: Elfrieda Hackbarth, 19012 125th St., Alden, IA 50006.

Kent was born July 16, 1924, at his parents' farm near Bradford in Franklin County, to LeRoy and Edna (Patzer) Hackbarth. His family moved to a farm north of Dows where he was educated in the Morgan No. 4 school in Franklin County. On Dec. 16, 1949, he was united in marriage to Elfrieda Rau at the First Christian Church in Iowa Falls. The couple farmed near Alden and Kent also worked as a bus driver and custodian with the Iowa Falls Community Schools, first at Central School and then the Iowa Falls High School.

Survivors include his wife, Elfrieda, of Alden; his son, James, of Iowa Falls; one brother, Lyle and wife Lois of Eldora; four sisters, Dorothy Johnson and husband Everett of Mission, Texas, Kathleen Johnson and husband Eugene of Iowa Falls, Marjorie Maupin and husband Dave of Harlan, Pearl Thompson and husband Robert of Roseville, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Norma Hackbarth of Iowa Falls; one aunt, Doris Patzer of Iowa Falls; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Gerald Hackbarth. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
