LaVerne F. Larue, 79, of Hot Springs, Arkansas died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital. Born on March 17, 1924, in Dows, Iowa to George and Madge Larue. He was a decorated World War II veteran receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Valor and numerous other decorations. He was an accomplished business and real estate entrepreneur and a steadfast member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, holding may positions in the church.

Survivors include his wife, Jewel Larue of Hot Springs; a daughter, Jeanne Gammill of Van Buren; a son, Jon Larue of Savannah, Ga.; five sisters, Tiny Hackney of Lomoor, Iowa, Mina Peterson of North Glen, Colo., Ethel Frazelle of Moline, Ill., Donna Rohweder of Hot Springs, and Bonna Burow of Sun City, Ariz.; two grandsons, Robert Vint IV and Pense Gammill of Van Buren; three sisters-in-law, Clarice Downs and Diane Mason, both of Du Quoin, Ill., and Barbara Harkless of Bakersfield, Calif.; five brothers-in-law, Dean Hackney of Lomoor, Iowa, Ralph Rohweder of Hot Springs, Dean Burow of Phoenix, David Moutrey of Plainview, Texas, and Leroy Moutrey of Bakersfield, Calif.; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by two sisters, Viney Streicher of Hot Springs and Nina Ozwood of San Diego; and one infant brother, George Larue of Dows, Iowa.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Crooks officiating. The body was cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Outreach Program, c/o Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 841 Quapaw, Hot Springs, AR 71901. Arrangements are by Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.
