Leah Anderson was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of Alex and Anna Bratzman Miller. She grew up in the LuVerne and Sexton area. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in LuVerne, Iowa. She graduated from the LuVerne High School in 1937. On Aug. 18, 1937, Leah was united in marriage to Orville Anderson in Eagle Grove, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple lived and farmed in the LuVerne area until 1955, when they moved to the Corwith area. They farmed in the Corwith area until retiring and moving to Algona in 1986. Leah and Orville enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona, which they had done for 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed golfing and playing cards. Leah was a 50-year-plus member of the United Methodist Church. Leah was a past member of the Methodist Church in LuVerne and Corwith, where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was a current member of the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Leah died on Wednesday (June 16, 2004) at the Good Samaritan Communities in Algona at the age of 84.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years of marriage, Orville; son, Larry and Karen Anderson, of Alexandria, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Pat Anderson, of Emmetsburg; son, Mike and Denise Anderson, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Eric and Janet Anderson, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Michael Anderson and Pam Rogers, of Washington, D.C.; Pam Anderson, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Tammy and Jeff Naig, of Emmetsburg; Marni Leah Anderson, of Denver, Colo., and great-grandchildren, Vance Theron and Dean Carl Anderson, and Paige, Alexa and Bailey Naig. Also surviving are a brother, Robert and Doris Miller, of Rochester, Minn., and a sister, Helen and Daryl Burtis, of Mason City. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert; grandson, Theron; brothers, John and Henry, and sisters, Katie, Pauline, Mary, Freda and June. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Algona with the Rev. Mike Orthel officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Algona.
