5 August 2006POCAHONTAS - Leo C. Krips, age 86, of Pocahontas, passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at his son?s home in Havelock. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at the Resurrection of our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas, with Fr. Merle Kollasch officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Iowa. There will be a 5 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Parish Vigil Service, both at the funeral home on Sunday.
Leo was born Oct. 13, 1919, at Wadena, Minn. He was the son of Hubert and Mary Goetzinger Krips. Leo attended St. Ann's Catholic School through the eighth grade and helped out on the family farm until he enlisted in the United States Army where he serve for four years during World War II. Leo married Mildred Stoulil at Pocahontas on May 6, 1946. They lived in Omaha, Neb., Wadena, Minn. and rural Havelock. Mildred passed away Dec. 12, 1977. On Aug. 15, 1981, Leo married Mildred Sorensen of Goldfield. They spent their married life in Pocahontas. She passed away July 11, 1998. Leo continued to live in Pocahontas and farmed near Havelock until 2002 when ill health forced him to quit.
Survivors include sons, Ray (Sally) Krips of Pocahontas; Bill (Bridget) Krips of Placerville, Calif.; Dennis (Karen) Krips of Havelock; and Rick (Judy) Krips of Havelock; daughters include Mary Ann (Wayne) DeWall of Havelock; Sharon Schrunk of Omaha, Neb.; Janice (George) DeWall of Glenwood, Iowa; and Barbara Flaherty (Marc Evers) of Pocahontas; and a step-daughter Marjorie (Harlan) Frakes of Goldfield. Other survivors include two brothers, Joe Krips of Wadena, Minn.; and Jack Krips of Williston, N.D.; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, an infant son, a son-in-law, Tom Schrunk of Omaha, Neb.; a stepson, Lynn Sorensen of Goldfield; two brothers, Clarence Krips and Jim Krips; and seven sisters, Genevieve Vassar, Florence Koch, Helen Hoffman, Irene Hoffman, Frances Tigges, Mary Louise Spahn and Dorothy Lorenz. Leo was a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. He enjoyed farming, fishing, dancing, playing cards and bingo, listening to polka music and spending time with his family.
