Paul A. Bailey, 72, of Mason City, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, in his home. Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, by Pastor John W. Bailey. Interment: Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Paul was born Feb. 18, 1934, to John W. and Delma (Akeson) Bailey, in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Mason City High School, St. Olaf at Northfield, Minn., with a degree in choral music, and the University of Northern Iowa. In December 1985, Paul married Dianne Grimm. Paul worked at Metal Craft Corporation in Mason City and also taught choral and instrumental music in Clarion, Goldfield, Clear Lake and Belmond. He enjoyed fishing, photography, calligraphy, collecting watches and pens, writing short stories, and writing, arranging and composing music. He also loved dogs. Paul was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, NRA, and a choral director for S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. He was involved in the community chorus.
His survivors include his son, Paul A. Bailey and wife Nancy of Mason City; one grandchild, Stephanie Bailey of Ankeny; and one brother, John Bailey and wife Karen of Marion. He is also survived by Diane Bailey; nieces and nephews; and his dog and trusted companion "Zee." He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother, Arthur R. Bailey.
