Doris Lenore Hurst, the daughter of Ezra and Cora (Grinstead) Champion, was born January 20, 1916, in Polk County, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating in 1932 from East High School in Des Moines. Doris worked for the Agricultural Adjustment Administration in Des Moines. On February 17, 1940, Doris was united in marriage with Raymond Hurst at her parent's home near Ankeny. The couple lived in Mitchellville, Redfield, Vail, Hampton, Nevada and moved back to Redfield in 1961. Doris moved to Eagle Grove in 2003 and has resided at Rotary Ann for the last year. Raymond preceded her in death in October 1975. Doris was an active member of the Redfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she taught Sunday school and belonged to Christian Women's Fellowship. Doris enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, quilting, poetry and making pressed flower stationery. She loved being a grandmother.

Doris passed away Thursday, February 8, 2007, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 91 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Mary Mullin and Gladys Andersen; brothers, Worth Champion and Doyle Champion and a son-in-law, Paul Jorgensen. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Jorgensen of Eagle Grove; sons, Dale Hurst of Redfield and Steve Hurst and wife Chris of Boone; six grandchildren: Ron Jorgensen and wife Denise, Dan Jorgensen, Anita Yates and husband Tim, Andrew Hurst, Michelle Baumgartner and husband Jason and Michael Hurst; five great- grandchildren; daughter- in-law, Karen Hollett of Redfield; sister-in-law, Ila Champion of Ankeny and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 12, 2007, 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield with Rev. Alan Finestead and Rev. Les Borsay officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Panther Creek Cemetery, rural Redfield.
