Dean Elliott, 95; was town postmaster

EGREMONT, Massachusetts —

Dean Elliott, 95, of Egremont Plain Road, died Wednesday at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington, where she had resided for a few weeks. She was town postmaster until retiring in 1976. Born in Belmond, Iowa, on Sept. 30, 1911, daughter of Herbert and Birdie Stanley Hill, she graduated from schools there and moved to North Egremont in 1936. She and her husband, Joseph Elliott, owned and operated North Egremont General Store, where Mrs. Elliott was postmaster. Mr. Elliott died in 1972. She leaves three sons, Bruce Elliott of Denham Springs, La., Brian Elliott of Hudson, Fla., and Craig Elliott of North Egremont; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A private memorial service for Dean Hill Elliott, who died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is in charge of arrangements.
