GOLDFIELD — Lawrence “Larry” Stevenson, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at his Goldfield, Iowa residence following a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at the Goldfield United Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, with the Rev. James Seibert officiating. Burial at Goldfield’s Glenwood Cemetery will be private and there will be no funeral home visitation. Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
Larry was born in Goldfield to Harry and Cleo Stevenson on July 25, 1925. He attended Goldfield School and graduated from Vernon Consolidated School in 1943. Larry then entered the United States Army serving in post-WWII Japan. Upon his honorable discharge Larry returned to Goldfield hwere he began a farming career that continued until his death. He was united in marriage with Lillian Anderson on Dec. 16, 1950, and two sons, Scott and Tim, were born to their union. In addition to farming, Larry sold real estate for Don Knudsen Realty, managed farm property for a select number of clients and also sold seed for Latham Seed Company for several years. Larry was a member of Goldfield United Presbyterian Church, past president of the Goldfield Development Corporation and also served on the Goldfield Community School Board. He was also a member of the Goldfield American Legion.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Lillian; and two sons, Scott and his wife Diane of Sioux City, and Tim of Goldfield. He also has three grandchildren: Carrie Stevenson of Keokuk, Iowa, Ben Stevenson of Portland, Ore., and Spencer Stevenson of Goldfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, John Stevenson. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
