December 26, 1999KANAWHA - Donald Orvin Engh, 77, passed away suddenly at his home Thursday (Dec. 23, 1999). Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church with Pastor G. David Daley officiating. Interment will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ewing Dugger Funeral Home in Kanawha and will resume one hour prior to the services at the church Monday.
Donald, the son of Emery Newman and Newella Thompson Engh, was born on the family farm southwest of Kanawha on Oct. 9, 1922. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. John's Lutheran Church south of Kanawha. He attended country school and graduated from Renwick High School. On Feb. 20, 1953, he was united in marriage with Mildred Eekhoff at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church parsonage. The couple farmed south of Kanawha and moved to their present home north of Kanawha in 1968. Donald was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. He was active in many farm-related organizations over the years, including the Wright County ASCS Committee and Hancock County Pork Board and was a 4-H leader for over 15 years. He loved farming and raising livestock and always enjoyed working with people. He raised and sold purebred Spotted hogs for almost 50 years and enjoyed selling seed up to the time of his death. He was a strong believer in the Golden Rule when he was dealing with people. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's musical and athletic events.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two sons, Marvin and his wife, Nancy, of Kanawha, and Robert (Bob) and his wife, Rita, of Goldfield; six grandchildren, Elliot and Ellen, Natalie, Christopher, Eric and Shelby; and one sister, Lois Lind of Marathon. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clifford, and his wife, Doreen; and a brother-in-law, LeRoy Lind. Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, Kanawha, (515) 762-3211
