August 7, 2004BELMOND— Taus John Harms, Jr., 65, the son of Taus and Cecelia (Heginger) Harms, was born January 15, 1939, at rural Garner, Iowa. After a courageous battle with cancer, Taus Jr. passed away on Thursday (August 5, 2004) at the Belmond Medical Center and went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond. Pastor Lowell Halvorson will officiate. Burial will be at the Belmond Cemetery. Friends may meet with the family from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luicks Lane South. Taus had lived in the local area all of his life. He attended school in Chapin, Belmond, and Thornton. He hauled milk for the Hampton and Goldfield Creameries shortly after leaving school. On April 21, 1973, he went to work for Sukup Manufacturing Company in Sheffield. He lived in Sheffield for many years before moving to his small acreage near Belmond. He retired June 24, 2004, after thirty-one years with the company. He enjoyed working for Sukup’s and was a good and faithful employee. Taus enjoyed playing cards and dice games, tending to his livestock, working with his International tractor, and going to casinos whenever he could. Taus Jr. was baptized and received his first communion on July 31, 2004.
Survivors include his seven brothers; Bennie (Jean) of Mason City, Larry (Maxine) of Sanborn, Iowa, Harry (Barbara) of Hampton, Donald (Georgia) of Hampton, Ronald (Nancy) of Belmond, Jerry (Marlene) of Rockledge, Fla., Gary of Rockledge, Fla.; two sisters, Darlene (Dexter) Ewers of Mason City, and Arlene Weimann of Nora Springs; one uncle, Herman (Zelma) Harms of Forest City; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Taus Sr. in 2003 and Cecelia in l982. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, (641) 444-3248.
