MASON CITY — Harold "Bud" Kenneth Basinger, 73, of 1646 Eighth St. S.W., died Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center. A private family committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday followed by full military rites by the Mason City Memorial Association. The Rev. David Anderson, of St. James Lutheran Church, will officiate. There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements. The family would prefer memorials to St. James Lutheran Church or the Mason City High School Instrumental Music Department.

Harold "Bud" K. Basinger was born July 15, 1924, in Ann Arbor, Mich., to Dr. B.L. and Ethel (Roulet) Basinger. He graduated from Goldfield High School in 1942 and received his B. S. degree from Drake University in 1952. His graduate work was done at the University of Iowa. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was married to Esther Udorvich on Aug. 20, 1947, in Madrid, Iowa. Harold was employed by the Department of Job Service of Iowa and was supervisor for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, which is under the Department of Public Instruction, State of Iowa, until his retirement. Harold was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was a previous member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served on the council, was a member of the church choir, director of the youth choir and a Luther League sponsor. Harold was the commander of the American Legion & V.F.W. and a 40-and-8 service organization. He was president of the Washington Elementary School PTA and was active in various community projects.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Basinger, Mason City; two daughters, Crystal Anne Bell and her husband, Scott, of Mason City, and Carol Anne Meyer and her husband, John, Mason City; five grandsons, Jason, Eric and David Bell, Mason City, and Paul and Matthew Meyer, Mason City; his mother, Ethel Basinger, Clarion; one brother, William "Bill" A. Basinger and his wife, Jean, Des Moines; and special friends, Don Nelson, of Goldfield; and the Rev. Don Benson, of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. B.L. Basinger.
