EAGLE GROVE — Fern Robinson, 84, of Eagle Grove, died Thursday (Jan. 7, 1999) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the United Presbyterian Church, in Goldfield, with the Rev. Ellen G. Brantley officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, in Goldfield. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, with the family present, at the Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.

Fern was born on May 15, 1914, in the Evergreen Neighborhood of Wright County, Iowa, to Oliver and Dora (Young) Pletcher. She was educated in the rural schools of Wright County and then graduated from Goldfield High School in 1932. Fern was united in marriage with Farrell E. Robinson on June 17, 1935, in Fairbault, Minn. They lived in National City, Calif., during World War II and then moved back to Eagle Grove in 1946. They purchased an acreage west of Eagle Grove (Thor, Iowa) where they farmed for several years. Farrell preceded her in death in July of 1979. Fern moved to Rotary Ann South in 1983 and then to the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City, in July of 1997. Fern was a life-long member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. She enjoyed woodworking, knitting and, most of all, a love for horses, riding and collecting.

Fern is survived by one son, Lee and his wife, Fern, of Mason City; two granddaughters, Janna Robinson and her husband, James Fortier, of Alexandria, N.H. and Jennifer Schaeffer and her husband, Ray, of Clear Lake; one sister, Francis Kelling, of Eagle Grove; and one brother, William Pletcher, of Scottsdale, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Farrell E.; one son, Rex; and three sisters, Hazel, Lydia and Evelyn.
