Martha Williams, 83, of Oskaloosa died Wednesday at Mahaska County Hospital there. The cause of death is unknown, pending the results of an autopsy. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa, of which she was a member. Cremation will follow services. Mrs. Williams was born in Wilder, Idaho, and had lived in Pierre, S.D., and northwest Iowa. She had lived in Oskaloosa five years. She had taught English, speech and drama in Goldfield, Cylinder and Terril before retiring. She had received the Governor's Volunteer Award for Literacy in 1998 and enjoyed writing letters and poems. Her work was published in Lyrical Iowa.

She is survived by a son, Paul of Terril a daughter, Carolyn Pfeifer of Oskaloosa a sister, Joann Hoffman of Spearfish, S.D. two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert. Memorial contributions may be made to Red Bird Missions of Kentucky or the literacy program at Indian Hills Community College.
