Arlene Ruth Spangler, the daughter of Weir and Cecelia (Ness) Egemo, was born September 5, 1928 at Kanawha, Iowa. She attended Eagle Grove Community Schools and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On June 2, 1946, Arlene was united in marriage to Arthur Spangler, Jr. at the Evangelical Lutheran Parsonage in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June of 2006. Arlene worked as a cook for Los Amigos and the Doorway Inn. She also cleaned several homes in Eagle Grove. Arlene was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served in a church circle and also the American Legion Auxiliary and V.F.W. Arlene was well known for her cooking and loved to garden.

Arlene passed away Sunday, December 31, 2006, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge at the age of 78 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Howard, Verner and Lawrence; and two sisters, Grace Thompson and Catherine DeWinter. Survivors include her husband, Arthur Spangler Jr. of Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove; three daughters, Linda VanVleet and husband John of Orient, Susan Holst and husband Ron of Webster City and Terri Jo Meyer and husband Larry of Eagle Grove; two granddaughters, Kris Holst of Addison, Ill, and Teresa DeCoursey and husband Paul of Fort Dodge; two great grandchildren, Brennen and Karlee DeCoursey of Fort Dodge, three step grandchildren, Brad Meyer of Omaha, NE, Rebecca and Rachel Meyer of Eagle Grove; two sisters, Beatrice Burk of Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove and Marjorie Vorland of Hardy; three brothers, Bill Egemo of Fort Dodge, Arnold Egemo of Waterloo and Harlan Egemo of Webster City; and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 4, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Paul Stone officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 — 7:00 P.M. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
