Lila Hopkey Lekwa, 79, of Clear Lake, died on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 7, at 1:30 p.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, with Rev. Derik Yarian and Dick Scott (lay assistant) officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Lila was born on May 4, 1923 near Belmond, the daughter of Dan and Sadie (Van Buskirk) Fjetland. She attended grade school at Belmond and graduated from the Clarion High School. She married Harvey C. Hopkey on June 1, 1940. They farmed southwest of Alexander until 1967 and then moved to Clear Lake where she worked at Johnson's Paint and Gift. She later worked at Orkin Exterminating in Mason City for 20 years. Harvey died in 1985. She married Glen Lekwa of Clear Lake on August 18, 1990. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the women's circle. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling, boating, going to little league games and doing puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; an infant daughter; an infant brother; and brother, Darold Fjetland. Survivors include her husband of Clear Lake; daughter, Sharon (Raymond) Barlow of Columbus, Nebraska; son, David (Carol) Hopkey of Newton; grandchildren, Bradley (Amy Sue) Hopkey of Des Moines, Robyn (Jeff) Schmidt of Des Moines, Kimberly (Darin) Berger of Park Rapids, Minnesota and Gregory (Faith) Barlow of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Eldon Fjetland of Riceville, Lorin (Marcella) Fjetland of Belmond, Larry (Ruby) Fjetland of LeRoy, Minnesota, Donald (Ilalee) Fjetland of Riceville and Danny (Ivadelle) Fjetland of Riceville; and sisters, Donna (Merlin) Johnson of Meservey, Vivian (Delbert) Pals of Meservey, Judy Peil of Alexander and Betty Pollard of Osage.
