Norma C. DuVall, 82, died on Thursday, April 8, 2004, at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 12, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Rev. Rod Hopp officiating. Interment was on Tuesday, April 13, in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Kimballton, Iowa. Organist was Eldoris Bunnell. Ushers were Loren Bamford and Al Charlson.
Norma Rasmussen, was born on May 10, 1921 in Kimballton, the daughter of Einar and Ann (Nielsen) Rasmussen. She was baptized at the Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended the Kimballton School through the eighth grade. On September 20, 1940, she married Duane DuVall. They farmed in the Harlan area for a few years before moving back to Kimballton in 1957. Norma was employed at nursing homes in Harlan and Atlantic. In 1964 the DuValls purchased the Elk Horn Cafe, which they operated until Duane died in 1970. Norma moved to Audubon following Duane's death. She owned and operated a ceramic shop. In 1975 Norma moved to Des Moines and worked for the Iowa Children and Family Services until her retirement. In 1988 she moved to Belmond and lived at the Belmond Community Apartments. She was a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center for one year.
Norma enjoyed being around people, making afghans and cross-stitch items for her family and friends. She enjoyed displaying pictures of her grandchildren and their families and spending summers camping at the lake at Goodell. She had a wonderful ability to connect with people and was like a second grandma to many. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; sisters, Celma Breining, Elna Brewer, Dagny Breining and Neoma Rasmussen; brother, Harlvor Rasmussen; granddaughter, Cherie DuVall; and great-grandson, Nicholas DuVall. She is survived by her sons, Arnold (Marlene) DuVall of Lacona, Roger "Dean" (Beverly) DuVall of Belmond and Wayne (Tammy) DuVall of Goodell; grandchildren, Debbie Teague, Michael DuVall, Lisa McLaren, Lana Wittrock, Joel DuVall, Dawn Sander, Cheryl DuVall, Anna Marie DuVall, Charlie Scarlett, Tanya Woolery, Randy Koenig and Kristy Koenig; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Irma Desler.
