Donna V. Knoll, 80, of Belmond, died on Monday, August 11, 2003, at the Belmond Medical Center in Belmond. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, August 14, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father David Beckman and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Interment was in the St. Francis Cemetery. Music was provided by Janyce Kluss, organist, David Whitty, Cantor and Shane Whitty, Cantor. Eucharistic Ministers were Bernie Barrett, Steve McLaughlin, Hugh Kopriva and Art Lamoureux. Lector was James Houser. Altar servers were Michael and Matthew Just. Ushers were Dr. Art Benetti and Earl Kalkwarf. Casket bearers were Mike Knoll, Paul Knoll, Kevin Knoll, John Knoll, Jim Knoll, Dennis Knoll and Matt Knoll. Honorary bearers were Dr. Albert Kollasch, Dr. Arthur and Veronica Benetti, Jack and Mary Ann Spitler, Jim and Betty Clare Houser, and Deb and DuWayne Abel.

Donna, daughter of George and Evelyn Gray, was born on December 18, 1922, on the family farm in rural Hancock County. She was an active member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and the Rosary Society. Donna was united in marriage to Lynn "Chappie" Knoll in September of 1942. They had 14 children, seven sons and seven daughters. Her life was dedicated to her family and making a home for her children. She was a substitute in the Belmond School District for 17 years. In 1962, Lynn and Donna built and operated Lynn's Supper Club. They retired in 1980. Donna enjoyed golf, music, bridge, and working crossword puzzles when she wasn't spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in December 1997; two sisters; three brothers; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Survivors include her children, Michael (Claudia) Knoll of Ossining, New York, James (Kathy) Knoll of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mary (the late Michael) Luick of Belmond, Paul Knoll of Anaheim, California, John (Roylene) Knoll of Belmond, Dennis (June) Knoll of Catlin, Illinois, Kathryn (Bill) Cahill of Danville, Illinois, Patrice (David) Whitty of Lancaster, Wisconsin, Jeannie (Pat) McWhorter of Beeville, Texas, Kevin (Deb) Knoll of Belmond, Elizabeth (Bernard) Barrett of Belmond, Angela (Dennis) Olson of Belmond, Sherrie (Brad) Kunecke of Atchison, Kansas and Matthew (Kim) Knoll of Wesley; 55 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ardys, Mary, Rita, Romona and Joan; and brothers, Paul and Jerry.
