Laura Elizabeth Guthrie, 94, died on Thursday, July 10, 2003, in Kearney, Missouri, where she had lived since 1984. Laura was born on August 16, 1908 in Dows, the daughter of William Thomas and Maggie Watt Bashford. She graduated from the Webster City High School and married William Guthrie in 1928. From 1928-1942, she was the leading lady for the Guthrie Players tent show. In 1942, they purchased the theater in Dows. It closed in 1955 and they opened a ladies' ready-to-wear store in Belmond. She sold that business in 1966 and moved to Webster City.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1964; and brothers, James, Joseph (Mack), William, Eugene, LaVerne and Francis Bashford. Survivors include her daughter, Darlene Denger of Kearney; and sister, Naomi Raven of Michigan.
