Irene Markham, 84, formerly of the Belmond area, died on Friday, June 20, 2003, at the Perry Lutheran Home. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 24, in Boone. The body was cremated and burial will be at a later date. Irene was born in Alexander on November 28, 1918, the daughter of Cornelius and Johanna (Sporee) Johnson. She attended school in Alexander. On August 31, 1938, she married Harry T. Markham. They farmed in the Alexander and Belmond areas, later moving to Boxholm, then Davenport, Boone and Ogden. She married Dewey Day after her first husband died. They divorced in 1986.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Ronnie; and brothers, John and Virgil Johnson. She is survived by son Gary (Nancy) Markham of Atkinson, Illinois; daughters, Karlene Krause of Boone and Pauline (John) Fisher of Pilot Mound; sisters, Verna (Louis) Kramer of Dassel, Minnesota and Jennie Isaacson of Clarion; and brothers, Merlin (Donna) Johnson of Meservey and Roman (Wilma) Johnson of Alexander.
