Esther H. Mennenga, 88, of Belmond, passed away Tuesday [October 23, 2001] at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond after a lengthy illness. Funeral services for Esther H. Mennenga will be held at 1 : 30 p.m. on Saturday at the Immanuel Reformed Church near Belmond , with Pastor Rob Ford officiating. Burial will take place in the Immanual Reformed Church Cemetery. Visitation for Esther H. Mennenga will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.

Esther Henrietta Mennenga, daughter of Menno and Kate Frohling, was born on Dec. 6, 1912 in rural Belmond. Esther graduated from Belmond High School in 1931 and taught in country school in Pleasant Township. Esther was united in marriage to Harry E. Mennenga on Feb. 9, 1934 at the Immanuel Reformed Parsonage in Belmond. Esther enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her seven grandsons and friends. Esther was a longtime member of the Immanuel Reformed Church and served her church in many ways. She taught Bible school, Sunday school and catechism for many years. She was also a member of the Women's Guild.

Those thankful for sharing her life are her sons, Larry Mennenga and his wife, Margaret, of Belmond; Lynn Mennenga and his wife, Sue, of Pontiac, Ill.; her sister, Mildred Tomson and her husband, Royce, of Fort Dodge; three brothers-in-law, Lloyd Cunningham, of Belmond, Ben Mennenga, of Belmond, and Loren Mennenga, of Belmond; a sister-in-law, Edna Krebs and husband, Ted, of Crete, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Duan Mennenga, of Chicago, Ill.; Daren Mennenga and his wife, Diena, of Belmond, Scott Mennenga and his wife, Jill, of Painsfield, Ill., Todd Mennenga, of Naperville, Ill., Bradd Mennenga and his wife, Victoria, of Plainsville, Ohio, Ross Mennenga and his wife, Christina, of Coal City, Ill , and Chadd Mennenga of Pontiac, Ill.; and six great-grandchildren, Brittany, Alexis, Sophie, Andrew, Alex, and Tristan Mennenga. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry, in 1995; and two sisters, Ruth Jenison and Erma Cunningham. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.
