Vivian Lillian Phares, 78, of 1815 Sixth Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, died of a heart ailment Friday, October 5, 1992, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. The body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, and memorial services were held at noon on the following Saturday at the home of her granddaughter, Michelle Vanvelzen, 215 S.E. Hughes Circle, Des Moines, Iowa. Mrs. Phares was born in Wright County and had lived in Des Moines since 1983. She had also lived in Long Beach, California. She was a retired waitress at
various hotel restaurants in Des Moines and a member of Frisbee School Alumni Association. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Fitzgerald, and two sons, James Matherly and Alfred Phares III, all of Des Moines, six grandchildren, and
five great-grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Dunn’s Funeral Home.
