HAMMITT, GOODRICH, TRUEBLOOD, WAKEMAN, REHNBLOM, GRANDGEORGE

William Eldridge Hammitt, 77, Webster City, died Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Hamilton County Hospital. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Foster Fumeral Home, Rev. Ruth Lovejoy oifficiating. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery. A prayer service was held Sunday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. William Eldridge Hammitt, son of Owen and Sylvia (Goodrich) Hammitt, was born Nov. 23, 1912, in Lehigh, where he attended schools. He married Myrtle Trueblood on June 28, 1934, in Renwick. The couple farmed east of Lehigh until 1969, when they moved to Duncombe. They retired in 1970. Mr. Hammitt had been a resident at Crestview Manor Care Center in Webster City for three years.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle, Webster City; two sons, Walter Hammitt, Blairsburg, and Dale Hammitt, Colorado Springs; a daughter, Joan (Mrs. Joe) Wakeman, Iowa Falls; 13 granchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers, Florence Rehnblom, Coralville; Mildred Grandgeorge, Woolstock; Charles Hammitt, Jacksonville, Fla.; Orville Hammitt, Lehigh; and Dean Hammitt, Rialto, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Mr. Hammitt was a member of the Duncombe United Methodist Church, where he was a former trustee. He was also a former trustee of Washington Township, and was a longtime member of the Farm Bureau and the Good Sams Club.
