Maxine Ruth Barton, 79, of Sweet Home, Oregon, died on Sunday, July 29, 2001 at Lebanon Community Hospital. Graveside services were held on August 1, 2001 in the Gilliland Cemetery. She was born on July 17, 1922, in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Ora Trent Patterson. She moved from Iowa in 1941 and settled in Oregon. She married Bertie Barton on April 11, 1942, in Boise, Idaho. He died on July 3, 1985. She lived in Sweet Home for many years. Mrs. Barton was a homemaker and member of the Sweet Home First Baptist Church. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and liked playing the organ and researching the history and genealogy of her family.

She is survived by her sons, Sam of LaPine and Jim of Sweet Home; brothers Gene Patterson of Sweet Home, Myron Patterson of Webster City, Iowa; sisters Annabel Johnson of Dows, Iowa, Gwenie Anderson of Williams, Iowa, and Opal Yoder of Woolstock, Iowa; grandchildren Maryanne, Jimmy and Carrie; and six great-grandchildren. Her husband, infant daughter Betty, sister Mary Ahrens and brother Gary Patterson died before her.
