Thomas J. LaRue was born in Delaware County, Indiana, August 9, 1856. At the age of eight years he moved with his parents to Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. On July 12, 1877 with his family to the vicinity of Dows, where he resided until the time of his departure from this world. For the last few years he has been suffering from heart trouble from which malady the Grim Reaper claimed his toll on Monday afternoon, November 7th [1927]. Death coming instantly at the age of seventy-one years, three months and twenty-nine days.

There remains to mourn his departure; his devoted wife, eight sons and five daughters, Charlie, Samuel, Henry, Ernest, Lewis all living in this community, Jay of Iowa Falls; Lester of Highmore, South Dakota; and Dewey of Clarion, Mrs. Thomas Lorraine of Clarion, Mrs. Arthur Leach and Clement Martin of Dows, Flossie at home and Isabel and adopted daughter. Two children preceded him in death; Fay who died in 1905 and Viola who died in 1918. One sister, Mrs. Catherine Adams, of Havensville, Kansas, a number of grandchildren and other relatives, also survive him.

Mr. LaRue was a firm believer in God and the church, and although not a member of any denomination, he adhered strictly to those principles. Mr. LaRue was a member of Ridgley Lodge, No. 450, I.O.O.F and took an active part in the work of that organization until failing health forbid. A brief service was held in the home Thursday afternoon at ? o'clock and funeral services at the M.E. Church at two o'clock, with Rev. J. G. Waterman in charge at the grave and with their beautiful and impressive laid their brother at rest in Mount Hope Cemetery.
