Earl S Carpenter Rites At Longville, [Minnesota] Aug. 7th

Funeral service for Earl Spencer Carpenter was held Wednesday, August 7, 1957 at the Congregational Church of Longville, with Reverend Hawn and Reverend Davis officiating. Mrs. Walter Davis sang, “No Night There” and “Life’s Railway to Heaven,” accompanied by Mrs. Orville Johnson at the organ.

Earl Spencer Carpenter, son of Lee and Elizabeth Carpenter, was born August 30, 1891, at Latimer, Iowa and passed away at his home in Longville, Minnesota on August 3, 1957, at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 4 days. On July 23, 1913 he was united in marriage to Ella Pauline Schmidt, at Benson, Minnesota. To this union were born nine children:
· Mrs. Roland (Marion) Edwards – Longville, MN
· Mrs. Kenneth (Wava) Strait – Longville, MN
· Mrs. Cecil (Dorothy) Carpenter – Longville, MN
· Mrs. Roland (Helen) Spooner - San Pablo, CA
· Mr. Wesley ‘Bud’ Carpenter – Remer, MN
· Mr. Harold Carpenter – Grand Rapids, MN
· Mr. Floyd Carpenter – Slinger, WI
· Mr. James Carpenter – Slinger, WI

Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and an infant son. He leaves to mourn his wife, his children and one brother, Walther Carpenter of Chicago, Ill., two sisters, Mrs. Wava Kimball of Backus and Mrs. Ed (Hazel) Schmidt of Webster, So. Dak.; 31 Grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter lived in South Dakota until 26 years ago when they moved to Minnesota. Burial was in the Longville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Manders, Ed Slagle, Roy Slagle, Riley Ford, Harry Carpenter and John Tabaka. The Honrary Pallbearers were: George Engelhart, Carl Showalter, Walter Lilyquist, Ernest Hoppe, Ralph Felton, and John Vangen.
