Services Held Saturday for George A. ROOT
Funeral services for George A. Root, 87, of Dows were held on Saturday morning at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. M. C. Sutherland officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery and the Willim Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Root died on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton after a lingering illness. He was born Aug. 14, 1887 near Dows, and was the son of Thomas and Laura Van Root. He received his education in Morgan township and spent his life here except for five years farming in the Bradford area. He moved to his present home in Dows in 1948. On Sept. 6, 1911 he was married to Bessie Annett at Clarion.

Mr. Root is survived by his wife, seven daughters, Mrs. Herman (Rosella) Hansen of Williams, Mrs. James (Helen) Haines Sr. of Fort Dodge, Mrs. Kenneth (Rhoda) Kreitlow of Dows, Mrs. Leon (Elsie) Foster of Dows, Mrs. Raymond (Dorothy) Cheever of Ames, Mrs. Harold (Mable) Prescher of Wells, Minn. and Mrs. Lucille Jackson of Iowa Falls. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters, Clarence Root of Dows, Herbie Root of Shell Lake, Wis., Mrs. Alta LaRue, of Shell Lake, Wis., Mrs. Carrie Draves of Dows, and Mrs. Ida Riley of Overland Park, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
