Mrs. Laura Root, age 99, of Dows, passed away Thursday at Golden Acres Manor in Dows. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church in Dows with Rev. Raymond Bailey officiating. Burial was in the Mount Hope cemetery. The Van Hove funeral home was in charge of arrangements. She was born December 28, 1867, at Savanah, Iowa. On November 8, 1884, she was married to Thomas Root who passed away in 1934. She had made her home in Dows since 1884.

Mrs. Root is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Maggie Petrie of Iowa Falls, Mrs. August Draves of Dows, Mrs. Alta LaRue of Tergo, Wisconsin and Mrs. James Riley of Overland Park, Kansas, and three sons, George Root and Clarence Root of Dows and Harold Root of Shell Lake, Wisconsin. Also surviving are 32 grandchildren, 102 great grandchildren, and 93 great great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and two sisters.
