Funeral Sevices Held Today for Mrs. J. Jacobson
Funeral services were held today, September 11th (1947) at the Halvorson funeral home for Mrs. John E. Jacobson, the Rev. R. S. Brough having charge of the service. Beautiful flowers, the gift of loving friends, spoke their tender message of sympathy for the living and loving memory of the dead. Suzanne Peterson and Faith Oleson, accompanied by Mrs. A. E. Drury, sang "Ivory Palaces" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Pallbearers were the sons and sons-in law of the deceased: Oscar Jacobson, Lloyd Jacobson, Melvin Jacobson, Emery Bailey, James Igou and Sam Covington. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery. The many friends of Mrs. Jacobson were saddened to learn of her passing away which occurred Tuesday morning, September 9, (1947), at 10:00 o'clock at her home in Dows. Mrs. Jacobson had been in poor health for the past year. Early last March se entered St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids where she submitted to an operation. For the past four weeks she has been confined to her bed. The family: her husband, sons and daughters were able to be with her and care for her during the last days of her life.

Mary A. Oleson, daughter of Ole L. and Mary Oleson, was born February 19, 1871 at Wiota, Wisconsin. When she was three years of age she came with her parents to Iowa, making the journey in a covered wagon. They settled on a farm four miles southeast of Dows. She has lived in this community ever since. Mrs. Jacobson was a woman whose genuine goodness and great kindness of heart made her loved by all who knew her. Her devotion to her family, her loyalty to her friends, her helpfulness as a neighbor and her unfaltering fidelity in her religion were the natural outshining of her beautiful Christian life. She was reared in a good Christian home, and when a young child, was baptized in the Lutheran church in Wiota, Wisconsin. She was confirmed in the Otis Grove Lutheran church in her girlhood. Throughout the years she has been faithful and zealous in every good work. Mrs. Jacobson was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.

Mrs. Jacobson is survived by her husband and by three sons and three daughters: Oscar of Waterloo, Iowa; Lloyd of New Providence, Iowa; Mabel Bailey, Melvin Jacobson and Caroline Igou of Cedar Rapids and Lucille Covington of Crosbyton, Texas. Also by seven grandchildren: Lt. John A. Bailey of Japan; Orville Jacobson, Davenport, Iowa; Mrs. Roscoe Wharton of Rowan; Anna Marie Samuel and Ella Jo Covington of Crosbyton, Texas; and Larry Igou of Cedar Rapids. Also by 5 greatgrandchildren: John, Penny and James Wharton of Rowan; Ronald Jacobson of Davenport and Jon Mark Bailey of Cedar Rapids. Mrs Jacobson is also survived by three brothers and four sisters: Amanda Davis, Henry and Andrew Oleson of Dows; Martha Beinhauer of Des Moines; Mrs. Lloyd Carpenter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Mrs. Caroline Thue of California and Lewis Oleson of Akeley, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, Laura, Ole Nellie, Lars and Oscar.
