WASHINGTON TIMES HERALD - (June 18, 1998)

Marcella Faithe Peterson Rang, 78, died June 18, 1998. Funeral was at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church, Mason City, Iowa. The Rev. Melvin Low officiated with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Dows, Iowa. Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, Iowa, in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers: John Rang, Dr. James Rang, Alex Rang, Dr. Robert Rang, Eric Rang and Calvin Peterson. She was born to Charles W. and Ida M. (Ingebritson) Peterson on Jan. 31, 1920 in Dows, Iowa. In 1948 she married Robert Rang in Rochester, Minn. Rang attended school at Dows where she excelled as a pianist, debate team member and public speaker. She graduated from Dows High School in 1937 and then attended Chillicothe Business College in Missouri. During her first job as a medical stenographer at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines she also completed courses at Drake University. Prior to World War II she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the U.S. Navy as a stenographer for two years. In 1943 she moved to Rochester, Minn. and worked in the Mayo Clinic. The Rangs made their home in Rochester and then moved to Washington, Ind. where they raised their family. In 1966, she moved to Minneapolis, Minn. She received her B.A. degree in 1973 from Mankato State University. She continued to be close to her children, living in Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale and Jacksonville, Fla. In 1997, she moved to Ames to help care for her sister, Margaret Toft. After Margaret's death in February, Marcella moved to Garner. After being diagnosed with inoperable cancer in Mason City she was admitted to St. Maryís Hospital in Rochester. In May she moved to Martha's Vineyard, Md. to be with her daughter, Elizabeth and her family. Surviving are her five children, John Rang, Washington; Roberta Rang, Vincennes; Dr. James Rang, Evansville; Holly Rang, Nashville, Tenn. and Elizabeth (Betsy) Holcomb, Martha's Vineyard, Md.; four grandchildren; three brothers, Calvin Peterson, Badger; Dr. Clifton Peterson, Kenosha, Wis. and Ray Peterson, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Berneace Cataldo, May 3, 1991 and Margaret Toft, Feb. 16, 1998.
