Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 2, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for Eugene Patrick McLaughlin, 79, who died May 19, 1986 at his home. Rev. Robert Ament will officiate. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Eugene was born February 27, 1907 at Churchville to William J. and Elizabeth DeHack McLaughlin. He was married to Lillian McNutt on April 16, 1934 at Belmond. They farmed southwest of Belmond prior to retiring in town. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Surviving are his wife, Lillian; two daughters, Katherine (Mrs. Michael) Sammons, Keokuk and Jean Ketchum, Sioux City; four sons, Alfred of Belmond, Robert of Arlington, VA, David of Cascade and Samuel of St. Joseph, MO; two sisters, Loyola (Mrs. Donald) Hocraffer, Clarion, and Katherine (Mrs. Winston) Weber of Odessa, WA; four brothers, Jack, Edward, Vernon and James, all of Belmond; 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Casket bearers are Alfred, Robert, David, Samuel, Colin and Terrance McLaughlin. Honorary casket bearers are Ed McLaughlin, Jack McLaughlin, Vernon McLaughlin, Sr., and James McLaughlin.
