Howard A. McGrath, 81, a businessman who had been a high school and college athlete, died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Thursday at a Fort Worth hopsital.Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park.Visitation: 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. McGrath was born in Clarion, Iowa. He was a high school and college All-American in football, wrestling and track, his daughter said. He attended Cornell University and was inducted into the Cornell Sports Hall of Fame in 1989. He was a retired vice president and one of the founders of Thomas Conveyor Co. in Burleson. He was a member of Fort Worth Optimist Club and Purchasing Agent's Association, and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. He was an original sponsor of the Knot Hole Gang of the Fort Worth Cats baseball team at LaGrave Field. Memorials: Alzheimer's Association of Tarrant County, Box 9709, Fort Worth 76102.

Survivors: Wife of 54 years, Frances C. McGrath of Fort Worth; son, Howard G. "Mike" McGrath of Fort Worth; daughter, Lynda McGrath Sanderson of San Antonio; sister, Bessie Wilson of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
