Betty Jean Severson, 85, a longtime resident of Jewell, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards, Wisconsin. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell, Iowa. Pastor W. Michael Werner will officiate.

Betty was born May 29, 1921, in Rowan, Iowa, to William and Nettie (Walker) Duffy. She married Donald Severson on May 27, 1949, in Clarion, Iowa. He died Oct. 24, 2004. Betty was a teacher in Jewell and a substitute teacher in the South Hamilton School District for a few years. She and her husband operated a farm southwest of Jewell for many years. She also served on the Hamilton County Board of Health for a number of years. Betty enjoyed her CIC Card Club.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. James (Trish) Severson of Seattle, Wash., and Darrel (Deb) Severson of Nekoosa; one brother, Robert (Wilma) Duffy of Iowa Falls, Iowa; four grandsons, Rob, Michael, Ryan and Joshua; one granddaughter, Jenna; along with many nieces and nephews.Betty was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and four sisters.The family will receive relatives and friends at Bethesda Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home of Nekoosa, and Becker Funeral Home of Jewell, Iowa, are assisting the family. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home for the excellent care they gave Betty.
