Robert N. Ruleman, 85, died April 24, 2004 at his home in Des Moines. The body has been cremated and memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28 at New Hope United Methodist Church.
Robert was born September 20, 1918 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He graduated from Morningside College and Garrett Theological Seminary. Robert served as a chaplain (Commander) in the US Navy from 1943 to 1963. He also served with the Marine Corps during WWII and Korea. After the service, Robert served The Methodist Churches of Milford, Red Oak and Dows, Iowa. Robert started and served as Senior Chaplain for the Iowa State Patrol Chaplain Program. He was one of the founding chaplains for the F.B.I. Chaplain Program; a member of The International Conference of Police Chaplains; and volunteer Chaplain at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. Robert was also a member of the Northwest Optimist Club, the Military Officers Association and a volunteer for many charitable organizations.
Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Freda; two sons, David Ruleman of Washington, D.C. and Gary Ruleman of Maritta, GA; daughter, Judith Reilly of Lake Arrowhead, CA; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church or the International Conference of Police Chaplains.
