She was born June 24, 1906, on the Kruse farm in Sioux County. On June 26, 1929, she married Henry J. Foege in George. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Foege and her husband were commissioned on July 7, 1929, for service in the Papua New Guinea mission field where her husband led the first expedition to the unexplored Interior of Papua New Guinea and built the Kerowagi mission station. They returned to the United States in 1936 and served as mission developers for the American Lutheran Church in Montgomery, Ala., before returning to Iowa and serving congregations in Dows and Pocahontas. Mrs. Foege recounted their adventures in a book, "Our Days in New Guinea." She loved music and served as a church organist and choir director. She attended Boyden High School and Wartburg College, where she was active in the music programs.Survivors include four daughters, Miriam Reitz of Louisville, Malinda Meyer of Michigan City, Ind., Eunice Hofmeyer of Urbandale, and Ruth Hofbauer of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Donnellson; two sons, Romaine Foege of Mount Vernon and David Foege of Naples, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, two sisters and a great-granddaughter. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Boyden. The funeral for Mrs. Foege will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church.A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Louisville.A memorial has been established and should be directed to the Wartburg College Choir in Waverly. Sheldon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
