E. Sue Denger, 67 of Wichita, Kansas. Died Friday, May 21, 2004 of heart disease. Memorial services 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 4, 2004, Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Sue was born on July 12, 1936, to Ray L. and Elsie M. (Brighton) Denger. She attended rural school, Vernon #5, through the fifth grade then transferred to Dows Independent School where she completed her high school education in 1953. She then attended Broadlawns Polk County School of Nursing, in Des Moines, IA, graduating in 1956. She attended University of Iowa and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1966 and a Master of Arts degree in 1968. As a registered nurse, Sue had a long career including 8 years of clinical practice in Iowa. During her 25 plus years of nurse executive practice and leadership, she lived and worked in five different states, Missouri, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Kansas. She served on the nursing faculties of The Pennsylvania State University, University of Louisvil le and Wichita State University. She also was faculty for numerous seminars including a series of seminars for nursing staff of ARANCO Oil Company in Daharan, Saudi Arabia. Sue spent a number of years doing private consulting, teaching, and working as an interim hospital administrator or nursing administ rator in various hospitals. Also, she was part of a People to People Delegati on to Russia, Romania and to Cuba. Through the years Sue was involved at the local and state level of activities for various nursing organizations, including serving as president of the Kansas Organization of Nurse Leaders and of the Kansas League for Nursing. Nationally, she served on several nursing organization committees and served a two-year term as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Organization of Nurse Executives. Sue enjoyed life through sports, music, travel, reading and watching nature. She had an appreciation for people and their likenesses and differences. She considered one of her fortunes to be having a career that allowed her to accomplish things through other people and that those things would benefit both friends and strangers. And though she lived in different parts of the country and traveled quite extensively, she never lost touch with her roots in Dows, IA.

Survivors include her mother Elsie Denger of Dows, IA; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Denger of Dows, IA: nieces and husbands, Diane Mason (Larry), Carol White (David) both of Lake Charles, LA; and grand-nieces and nephews, Meredith and Brandon Mason, both of Lake Charles, LA, Jennifer Loomis (Shane) of Mesa, AZ. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray L. Denger; grandparents Susie and G. D. Denger; Hettie and John Brighton and brother Dan Denger. Memorials have been established with University of Iowa, Eva H. Erickson Scholarship for Nursing Graduate Students and Wichita State University, Plaza of Heroines.

E. Sue Denger, 67, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Dows, died on Friday, May 21, 2004. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 7, at the Dows United Methodist Church, with inurnment in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows.

She was born on July 12, 1936, the daughter of Ray I. and Elsie M. Brighton Denger. She graduated from the Dows High School in 1953, Broadlawns School of Nursing in 1956, earned a BS from the University of Iowa in 1966, and an MA in 1968. She worked in six states and taught at several universities. She traveled around the world consulting and teaching.

She was preceded in death by her father; and brother, Dan. Survivors are her mother of Dows; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Denger of Dows.
