Funeral services for Kenneth “Ken” Gangestad 76, of Villisca, formerly of Atlantic, Iowa will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday October 5, 2004, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa, with Reverend Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the Atlantic Cemetery. Following the graveside family will gather with family and friends at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Memorials may be directed to the Villisca Fire and Rescue, the Mamrelund Lutheran Church or to the family. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 Monday evening at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca.Ken Gangestad died suddenly Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. He was born on December 2, 1927, in Eagle Grove, Iowa the son of Florence (Ransford) and Maurice Gangestad. The family lived in Eagle Grove where he graduated from high school in 1946. He was married to Norma Chelesvig on June 20, 1948, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. After their marriage they lived in Eagle Grove, Sac City, Carroll, Tama, Atlantic for twenty-five years and then moved to Villisca in 1985. Ken was a livestock buyer for Armour and Company for thirty years and Montford and Company for seven years, before he retired in 1993. He was a member of the St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic, IA and the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, IA. Ken was an active member of the Lion’s Club in Atlantic and Villisca. He was an Scout Master for the Boy Scouts for fourteen years in Atlantic and received the highest honor for a volunteer – the Silver Beaver award. Throughout the years, he continued to volunteer in Boy Scout’s locally. Ken’s hobbies were woodworking, crafts, golfing and traveling. He was preceded in death by is parents Florence and Maurice and a brother Richard Gangestad. Ken is survived by his wife Norma of Villisca, IA, four children: Bruce Gangestad and wife Mary of Marion, IA, Colleen Gangestad of Creston, IA, Diane Eilts and husband Duane of Massena, IA and Alan Gangestad and wife Terri of Waterloo, IA. Ten grandchildren, three step grandchildren, five great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. One brother Melvin and wife Phillis of Two Harbors, MN and a sister in law Mary Gangestad of Goldfield, IA. He was brother in law to: Joyce Olson and husband Cliff, Thomas Chelesvig and wife Pat, Ruth Helmiclc, Charles Chelesvig and wife Evelyn, Joseph Chelesvig and Ellen, James Chelesvig and wife Caye and Julie Chelesvig. Plus many other relatives and friends. Wolfe Funeral Home of Villisca in charge of arrangements.
