FLANAGAN - James B. Wiechmann, 56, of 201 W. South St., Flanagan, died Friday (Feb. 1, 2002) at OSF Saint James Hospital, Pontiac. His funeral will be private. Pastor Herman Lehman, Mr. Wiechmann's cousin, will officiate. Cremation will follow. Burial will be at a later date in Otis Grove Cemetery, Dows, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Duffy Funeral Home, Pontiac. Memorials may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.

He was born May 17, 1945, in Pontiac, the son of John A. and Verneita Schlueter Wiechmann. He married Victoria K. Gardalen on Dec. 28, 1968, in Dows. She survives. Also surviving are his mother of Flanagan; two sons, Douglas J. Wiechmann, Watertown, S.D.; and Brock H. Wiechmann, Oxford, Ohio; and two brothers, Nyle (Marilyn) Wiechmann, Normal; and Mark (Sue) Wiechmann, Flanagan. Survivors also include seven nephews, two nieces and one great-nephew. His son, Brock H. Wiechmann is a student at Miami University of Ohio.His father preceded him in death. Mr. Wiechmann graduated from Flanagan High School in 1963. He graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, with a B.A. degree in history in 1968. He received an M.A. degree from the University of Iowa in education in 1972 and received a certificate of advanced study from Illinois State University. He taught at Cross Lutheran School in Pigeon, Michigan. He was a member of St. John's Church in Flanagan. He was a former church council member and Sunday school superintendent. He was instrumental in re-establishing the Boy Scouts in the Flanagan area. He was a former fireman. He has been a Republican precinct committeeman for more than 20 years. He was a Livingston County Board member and was currently running for reelection. He was also a sales representative for the Honeywell Corporation and had sold insurance for Modern Woodman and Country Companies in the Flanagan area. He was an avid reader and enjoyed politics. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He will be missed by all who knew him.
