ABINGDON - Dale K. Welch, 85, of 101 W. Sanitary Road died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg. Born April 10, 1915, in Dows, Iowa, to James K. and Susan Long Welch, he married Edith L. Carter on Nov. 25, 1936, in Princeville. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Gerald of Rolla, Mo., and Robert of Grafton, Wis.; seven grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and one brother, Bert of Williamsfield. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

He farmed near Princeville, LaFayette and Hermon. He later worked for Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service in Galesburg for several years and then as weigh master for Abingdon Rock Co., retiring in 1980. He was a 50-year member of Abingdon Masonic Lodge 185 and member and past patron for seven years of Order of Eastern Star Galesburg Chapter. He was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hinchliff-PearsonWest Chapel in Abingdon, where visitation will be two hours prior to services. Masonic services will be at 1:45 p.m. The Rev. Steve Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital Burn Unit.
