Mrs. Helen M. Mattern, 81, native of Dows, Iowa, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne M. Stock of Des Moines, Iowa, and Nora Lee Martin of Denver, Colo., and one son, Dr. John Q.A. Mattern II of Newport News. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday in the Westover Funeral Home Chapel, Des Moines, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 303 Butler Farm Road, Suite 106A, Hampton 23666-1521; or the Kavanagh House, 900 56th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50312.
Westover Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
