Alvin Trousdale Jaques, 81, a research physicist who retired from the Naval Ordnance Laboratory at White Oak in 1975, died of cancer Aug. 25 at Holy Cross Hospital. Mr. Jaques, who lived in Silver Spring, was born in Dows, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University and received a master's degree in physics from Washington University in St. Louis. He moved to the Washington area and began working as a research physicist for the Navy Department in 1942. His work included research and development related to anti-submarine warfare, electroacoustics, underwater sound and weapon systems studies and analyses. He had received the Navy's Superior Civilian Service Award. Mr. Jaques was author of reports and articles in professional journals. He was a member of the Navy Underwater Sound Advisory Group and the Acoustical Society of America.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Annie Ruth Jaques of Silver Spring; two children, Edward T. Jaques of Silver Spring and Charlotte Salmin of Northport, N.Y.; a stepson, Robert Callens of Annapolis; a sister, June Avonelle Leino of Annapolis; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
