AnnaBelle "Ann" E. Smith, 82, died on Monday, February 6, 2006, at the Mercy Hospice-Johnston of respiratory failure. Eucharist Services were held on Saturday, February 11, at 10:00 a.m., at the St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in West Des Moines. Interment followed in Resthaven Cemetery.

AnnaBelle "Ann" Nelson was born on September 18, 1923 on the family farm near Galt, the daughter of Clifford and Laura (Perkins) Nelson. She was a member of the 1940 graduating class of the Clarion High School and went on to Thompson's Rudemar School of Beauty in Des Moines, graduating in 1942. She married Francis Robert (Bob) Smith on October 22, 1943 in Yuma, Arizona and they were the parents of three children. In 1995, Ann retired from the West Des Moines School District where she had worked in food service for 27 years. Throughout her life, Ann enjoyed many activities including hunting, fishing, traveling, dancing, tending to her flowers, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

Ann is survived by two daughters, Judy Danforth of Yorba Linda, California and Jody Smith and husband, Brian of West Des Moines; four grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and one sister, Alice Moss of Clarion. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; son, Dennis; and a brother, Floyd Nelson.
