Robert Laddie Locke, 85, of Ames and formerly of Clarion, died Thursday, October 27, 2005, at the Heartwood House. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 31, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church, Clarion. Rev. Don Morrison officiated at the 11:00 a.m. service. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.

Robert Laddie Locke was born March 18, 1920 in Rutland, the son of Byron and Ione (Coffin) Locke. He grew up on a dairy farm north of Gilmore City and graduated from the Bradgate High School. He married Ethel Davis (Gilmore City) in 1945 at Anacortes, Washington. Locke served his country during World War II in the Naval Air Corp at Whidbey Island, Washington and the Aleutian Islands. After being discharged, he attended Iowa State University, graduating in Agronomy. Upon graduation, he was employed in Clarion for 15 years with the Wright County Soil Conservation Service. He then worked as a farm manager and real estate broker with the Sandage Companies in Clarion and in Ames until retirement. While in Clarion, Robert was a past trustee of the First United Methodist Church, president of the Clarion School Board and a member of the Wright County Conservation Board. He was currently a member of the American Legion in Clarion, First United Methodist Church in Ames, the ISU Alumni Association, and Order of the Knoll. Robert's greatest love in life was his family. He enjoyed baseball, golf, fishing, and all ISU sports.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel of Ames; two daughters, Becky (Thomas) Deimerly of Marshalltown and Julie Nail (Nickolas-deceased) of Fort Dodge; one son, Robert (Debra) Locke of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Delores Rogers of Walnut Creek, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Ray.
