Michael H. Whitman, 58, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, died Friday, August 26, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 29, at the United Presbyterian Church in Clarion. Following the memorial service there will be lunch and fellowship in the fellowship hall. Michael H. Whitman was born March 22, 1947 at Fort Dodge, the son of the late Ed Whitman and Rose Aupperle Whitman. He graduated from high school in Clarion and attended Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls. He was associated with the Red Owl Grocery chain for several years before owning two grocery stores. He moved to Hot Springs in 1978 and became an independent insurance broker.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Hot Springs; two sons, Mike Whitman and Mark Whitman, both of Hot Springs; one special grandson, Michael Whitman of Hot Springs; one brother, Ed Whitman and wife, Linda of Plymouth, Minnesota; three aunts, Bergel Whitman of Clarion, Barbara Whitman of Lexington, Illinois and Marjorie Gunderson of Houston, Texas; mother-in-law, Joyce Griffith of Clarion; brother-in-law, Dan Griffith and wife, Karen of Iowa City; sister-in-law, Jaynece Tekippe and husband, Patrick of Fort Atkinson, Iowa; sister-in-law, Carol Chapman and husband, Greg of Clarion; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
