Irvin Gene Hansen, 77, of Ruthven, passed way Wednesday, October 12, 2005. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 17, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Interment was in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. Irvin Gene Hansen was born October 20, 1927, on the "Connor" farm south of Ruthven, the son of Nina Mae (Miller) and Carl Edward Hansen. He attended school at Ayrshire until the family moved to the Hansen family farm south of Ruthven on the Clay/Palo Alto County line. He graduated from the Gillett Grove High School in 1946. Irvin married Barbara Markley on January 23, 1948 at Pender, Nebraska. They moved to the farm southeast of Ruthven where they raised their family and lived until 1991, when they moved to Ruthven. Irvin loved being a farmer. From an early age he helped his father with the family custom corn shelling, trucking and farming operation.

Irvin is survived by his wife, Barbara of Ruthven; children, Diane Gardner and husband, William of Sioux City, Denise Ruehle of Ruthven, Debra Hansen of Algona, David Hansen and wife, Deborah of Algona, Darcell Robb and husband, Gary of Clarion, Derek Hansen of Ruthven and Daaron Hansen and wife, Amy of Spencer; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Wayne Hansen and wife, Jeanine of Peterson, Iowa and Texas, and Raymond Hansen of Union Grove, Wisconsin; a sister, Virginia Novak and husband, Allen of Mendota, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Maxine Hansen of Ruthven; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leo; and a grandson, Michael John Hansen.
