Marie A. Nielsen, 81, died June 15, 2002. Funeral services were held June 18 at First Presbyterian Church in Dows with Pastor Tony Hershey officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery near Dows. Music was provided by Marge Larson, accompanist, and Glen Evans, vocalist. Ushers were Bob Larson and Willis Muhlenbruck. Casket bearers were Walt Moore, Bob Draves, Roger Dawson, Borge Anderson, Gerald Boor and Gary Kessel.

Marie was born January 19, 1921 in Alden, the daughter of Herman and Ella Hartkopp Kienol. She attended country school near Popejoy. Marie married Andrew Nielsen November 4, 1945 in Dows. They made their home there where they farmed. She belonged to the Dows American Legion Auxiliary and helped the Presbyterian Women.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and two sisters. Survivors are her eight children and their spouses: Richard and Lois Nielsen of Thornton, Rodger Nielsen of Madison, Wisconsin, Kenneth Nielsen of Dows, Keith Nielsen of Dows, Gary and Kathy Nielsen of Rowan, Mary and Clint Anderson of Dows, Marlene and Dennis Stearns of Woodburn, Larry Nielsen of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren, Corey, Sarah, Karla, Anna, Laura, Erin, Heather, and Kim; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Norma Kienol of Iowa Falls, and Glen and Eileen Kienol of Shelbina, Missouri.
