Lorraine Luella (Norris) Baines, 83, died April 4, 2002. Funeral services were held April 8 at Willim Funeral Home in Clarion with Pastor Janet Wearda officiating. Music was presented by Marilyn Janssen and JoAn Skyrme, vocalists, and JoAn Skyrme, accompanist. Casket bearers were Craig Boyington, David Didio, Galyn Cross, Thad Boyington, Mike Cross, and Ed Swanson. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery near Rowan.

Lorraine Luella, the daughter of Ray and Edna (Brewer) Norris, was born on October 29, 1918, on a farm near Belmond. She was baptized at the Belmond United Methodist Church. The family lived in Garner, Belmond, and moved to Rowan when Lorraine was in kindergarten. She graduated from Rowan High school in 1937. Lorraine attended the Evangelical Deacon School of Nursing in Marshalltown where she graduated from their three year nursing program in 1940. She worked as an O.B. nurse in Marshalltown for four years and worked in Iowa Falls for two years. Lorraine and Laurel W. Baines were united in marriage August 30, 1942, in Klemme. Laurel was inducted into the United States military service five days later, and during Laurel's time in the service they lived in Missouri, Mississippi and Louisiana. When Laurel was stationed overseas, Lorraine moved back to northern Iowa and took a job in Hampton. In 1946 Laurel returned to the United States and was transferred to LeMars where he resumed work for the phone company. Lorraine worked at the LeMars hospital. The couple moved back to Rowan in 1951. In 1956 Lorraine began her nursing career at the Belmond hospital where she was the director of nursing. She retired in 1980. She spent time crocheting, gardening, and she enjoyed cooking. The couple began wintering in Weslaco, Texas, and Lorraine continued, until 2000, to spend her winters in Texas after Laurel's death.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and brother, Merlynd. Survivors are her three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marjorie Cross of Dows, Bonnie and Maurice Didio of Galt, Maribeth and Allen Boyington of Dows; and a brother, Richard Norris of Rowan.
