Lura Maurine Rout, 89, Dows, died April 5, 2002 at the care center in Clarion. Funeral services were held April 10 at the Dows Methodist Church with Pastor Tony Hershey officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows.

Lura was born November 27, 1912, in Clarion to David B. and Loretta Smith Swisher. She graduated from Clarion High School in 1930. On May 8, 1934, she married William Zeddie Rout in Boone. They farmed and raised seven children on the same farm William was born on near Dows. In 1979 they moved into Dows. Lura was active in Royal Neighbors of America, the Dows United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and Dows Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William and one sister, Ruth Weiss. Survivors include her four sons: William Arlyce) Rout, Jr. of Kanawha, Darrell (Fran) Rout of Huxley, DeWayne (Wanda) Rout of Springfield, Missouri and Roger Rout of Dows; three daughters: Margaret (John) Mathews of Montgomery, Alabama; Carol (Gary) Carlson of Madrid; Phyllis (George) Collison of Houston, Texas; a sister, Marjorie VanderBerg of Battle Lake , Minnesota; a brother, Donald Swisher of California; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
