L. Harold Cross, 86, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at his home in rural Dows. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 16, at the United Methodist Church in Dows with Pastor Tony Hershey officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows.
Lewis Harold Cross was born April 12, 1915 in Goldfield to John Adam and Clara (Jostes) Cross. He attended elementary school in Goldfield and Eagle Grove. Harold's family then moved to Virden, Illinois, where he graduated from Virden High School. On May 17, 1941, Harold married Marjorie Norris at the home of her parents in Rowan. The couple farmed and made their home in several communities including Blairsburg, Rowan and Clarion. In 1956, Harold and Marjorie moved to a farm in rural Dows. Harold was a member of the Dows United Methodist Church. His hobbies included carpentry and mechanics. He also enjoyed playing cards, dancing and delivering the Sunday newspaper.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, Dows: four sons: Michael and his wife, Evelyn Cross of Hampton; Galyn Cross of Dows; Neil and his wife, Cheryl Cross of Des Moines and Douglas and his wife, Rebecca Cross of Geneseo, Illinois; four sisters: Lucille and her husband, Eldon Schroeder of Beloit, Wisconsin; Ethel Schroeder of Rockford, Michigan; Viola and her husband, Al Piper of Kearney, Nebraska and Evelyn and her husband, Bud Kramer of Minnetonka, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
